Barry Pruitt was born in Sherman Texas on September 13th 1975. He was the birth son to David Lee Pruitt Sr. and Glenda (Inman) Pruitt of Gainesville Texas. He had a brother that was 21 months older named Davidl Lee Pruitt Jr. Barry was dark headed and had brown eyes ; the direct opposite of his older brother. Barry was raised in Gainesville Texas most of his entire life. Their family lived in "lease houses" as David Sr. worked in the oil field to support the family. David Sr. even lost his thumb on a rig working to put food on the table. They were a very poor family as far as money went, yet they were rich with love. Love can keep things going when you don't have much else in life. Barry was loved very much by both his mother and father. He didn't get along with his brother a lot as a child and Barry was thought to be kinda "honery" by his brother David Jr. However, the two boys played with each other as 2 children do almost everyday. Barry's love was for Lego blocks over many other toys. he also liked stuffed bears and had a special place in his heart for Snoopy. He actually saved his money up so that he could outfit his Snoopy with the finest threads (leather jacket). Barry was pretty much "mind-set" and vocal of his opinion even as a very young child. He had no problem telling you he didn't like somthing or someone even as a child. This same feature was present throughout his life into adulthood and throughout his entire life. Though many people are not like this, and some do not want this in a person....it was somehting that gave Barry his unique personality and made him what you would consider "real", even as a child. He didn't like to be fake or stay in the company of people who are not real in their ways of life or attitudes. This can be looked back at as actually being a strength to most. Who wants to be around fake people? Not me, and not Barry.
Barry attended Edison Elementary School and did pretty decent. Barry never had much of an interest in school so he might not have putten his heart in it. Barry was more of a "hands-on" and real eperience driven person who demanded independence even as a child. His strong minded attitudes drove Barry to do many things that others might look at or think of as "impossible" or somthing that is not going to happen. Barry once stated he wanted a swimming pool even if he had to build it himself. Well.....He dug a big hole (about 2 ft deep) and filled it with water. Yes, Barry and his brother actually sat in the pool and it felt like a real one. Barry also dug a big hole one day and was asked what he was doing.,,,He claimed "making a snake trap", Believe it or not, the next day he want to check the hole and sure enough, there was a snake in it. He was happy to see it had worked. I think everyone else in the family was just shocked. He also grew up wanting to be a fireman as his father had worked for hours to get the fire going on the grill so the family could eat some burgers and hot dogs on a weekend. Barry spotted the firing going, and ran to the fire and poured water all in the grill. His parents asked him "BARRY! WHY DID YOU DO THAT!!?!?" Barry looked at them as serious as can be and asked "DONT YOU KNOW I'M A FIREMAN!!??!!". He was as serious as could be. He was quite a character even as a very small child. I would have to admit that anything he put his mind to, and put his heart into, he would excell at.
He attended Gainesville Middle School and did what he had to do, as he was not interested in School. He got in the usual trouble as any middle school kid would get into, and was friendly to most all people he would encounter. His hobbies and interet were fishing, and skateboarding. At one time, he was so dedicated to skateboarding and BMX riding that he had 2 half-pipes in his back yard. He was pretty good on his freestyle bike as well as his skateboard. He actually picked up a skateboard about 3 weeks before this tragedy and did an "ollie" about 2 ft high! People were impressed as well as suprised. I guess when your heart is into something...it sticks with you. Barry was fun to be around and had many many firends. Barry's interest was not is school and by his later middle school years he let everybody know. His parents then decided it was time for a change and decided to enroll Barry into the Central Christian Academy in Whitesboro Texas.
Though he didn't like school he stuck with it and graduated as his parents wanted of him. His intelligence was above average, yet his intereste level in school was below average. Barry was ready to be independent and get on with life. He was always a worker and started welding and doing metal work on several ranches throughout the Cooke County area. I am sure many people who view this site might recall working with Barry or seeing Barry on a job site. Though you might have built an image of him and think you "knew" him...you might wish to step back and accept the fact that his life entended much further than the few minutes you spent with him, or even the couple of years you knew and spoke to him. As people, we sometimes build an image in our head that is unrealistic or inaccurate. This is human to do so, yet sometimes it doesn't allow us to truely get to know the person. Of course in these busy days, it is hard to get the time to get get to know people as well. I think Barry could honesty admit that nobody would know him better that the people that grew up with him and were around him his whole life. His Edison friends and only a handful of others actually KNEW Barry.
His talent with metal was very obvious and can be viewed in many places throughout the county. Barry loved his daughters and anyone who had even "bumped into" him, would have seen this much to be true. It is a true shame that his life was ended so early as Barry had taken steps to be a part of another business venture and things were lookingto take off with it. Sure he was not perfect, and sure he had sure encountered some "undesireable" types throughout his life, But Barry remained to be true to himself and others and sometime that is not what the world is looking for or willing to accept.
